Kraken’s freeride

June 2, 2025 to June 30, 2025

Kraken

A new monster is about to emerge for all the GRICAD users into the HPC community!

Application submission deadline: April 14, 2025

In short:

11328 CPU cores AMD Genoa, 28 GPU Nvidia H100, 200Gbp/s Interconnect, 300TB full NVMe scratch, 768 and 1536 Go of RAM per node

In details (first step of the setup):

  • 44 CPU computing nodes with 192 cores each:
    • 2 AMD EPYC 9654 96C 2.4GHz Processor
    • 768 GB RAM
    • 1.92 TB local NVMe SSD scratch
    • Infiniband NDR 200 Gb/s HBA
  • 8 CPU computing fat nodes with 192 cores each:
    • 2 AMD EPYC 9654 96C 2.4GHz Processor
    • 1536 Go RAM
    • 1.92 TB local NVMe SSD scratch
    • Infiniband NDR 200 Gb/s HBA
  • 7 GPU computing nodes:
    • 2 AMD EPYC 9654 96C 2.4GHz Processor
    • 1536 Go RAM
    • 4 GPU Nvidia H100 94GB HBM2e
    • 3.84 TB local NVMe SSD scratch
    • Infiniband NDR 400 Gb/s HBA
  • Infiniband NDR 200Gb/s non-blocking Interconnect (400 Gb/s for GPU nodes)
  • 300 TB BeeGFS distributed scratch filesystem full NVMe SSD
  • Access to Bettik and Mantis
  • DWC (Direct Water Cooling) on all the computing nodes
  • OAR v3 batch scheduler and Alumet system profiling tool

During one month, this June 2025, 4 to 6 challenging projects will be selected for exclusive access to the whole platform!

During this period, challengers among the Grenoble’s public researchers will have exclusive access to all compute nodes and the scratch file system, allowing us to put the new platform through its paces and make any necessary adjustments. This means that candidate projects must be able to scale on such a platform, either on the CPU partition (9984 cores) or on the GPU partition (28 H100), or on both partitions.

Please note: as this is a special “run-in” period, voluntary or involuntary, planned or unplanned reboots or full resets will be possible!

To submit a request, please provide the following information by e-mail at Bruno.Bzeznik@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr with the subject “[FREERIDE]” before April 14, 2025:

  • Short name of the project (few letters)
  • Long name of the project (few words)
  • Name and laboratory of the scientific leader of the project
  • UGA pole (MSTIC/PEM/CBS/PAGE/SHS/PSS)
  • Scientific description of the project
  • Technical details (number of nodes, number of CPU/Cores/Memory per nodes, estimated computing duration in core.hours or gpu.hours, storage and i/o needs, software/libraries/compilators,…)
  • Technical contacts (Name, e-mail)
  • Project duration (3-7 days)
  • Preferred dates (see preliminary Gantt Chart)

Feel free to ask us if you need more information before doing an application (platform description, preliminary benchmarks, …)
